Can I still get money for an accident from a few years ago? In Massachusetts, if you are an adult and were injured in an accident where another person could be potentially negligent—or at fault—you have three years from the date of the accident to file a lawsuit. If you were under age 18 when you were injured, you have three years from the day of your 18^th birthday to file a legal claim. This time limit is known as the statute of limitations.
