With Halloween just around the corner , revelers are looking to add the final spooky element needed to complete their costumes. For many, that could include purchasing a pair of decorative contact lenses. The Boston Defective Product Lawyers with Jason Stone Injury Lawyers explain that these products have been linked to several adverse health events in the past.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently released a consumer warning, stating consumers may be injured if the contact lenses they attempt to use are ill-fitting or have become contaminated. Reports of infection, cornea scratches, and blindness are all commonly associated side effects of using decorative contact lenses.
One user claimed she experienced corneal abrasions as the result of using a pair of lenses she purchased without instructions. The result was weeks of medical care that totaled more than $2,000 in medical bills.
Incidents like this have prompted the FDA to warn contacts should only be purchased through an eye doctor. The agency also instructs users to follow directions and to halt use immediately if redness, swelling, or blurred vision occur.
The agency adds anyone selling contacts without a prescription is breaking the law and asserts such products should NOT be purchased from:
- The Internet
- Novelty Shops
- Salons or Beauty Supply Stores
Jason Stone’s Massachusetts Personal Injury Lawyers encourage anyone who has been harmed by decorative contact lenses to discuss their legal rights with an attorney.
